The hacked computer included names, Social Security numbers and, in some cases, addresses and dates of birth for 144,493 people who received CalFresh, MediCal, CalWorks and Foster Care payments through the county between 2002 and 2009, said Sam Trevino, spokesman for the county Department of Social Services. Trevino said county officials were notified by state social services officials on March 17 of the security breach, which occurred the same day. Elliott Robinson, director of the county Department of Social Services, said a joint investigation by state and local officials concluded the hackers were able to break through the password protection on the computer through its connection to the state network and had access to it for less than 24 hours.
